BeSTGRID - Using BlueFern via the the Grid

The grid is a technology that allows to use HPC resources in a simple and uniform way. BlueFern is available as an HPC resource on New Zealand's BeSTGRID, and BeSTGRID users have been using a number of applications available on BlueFern via the grid.

The grid allows users to submit their jobs from the comfort of either their web browser or a small java application running on their desktop - without the need to deal with command-line interface of the job scheduling system used on each HPC resource (LoadLeveler for the case of BlueFern).

The users can submit their jobs via several different tools, including the Grisu Template Clientu (a small java application running on the desktop) and the BeSTGRID portal.

When submitting a job via the grid, the users just pick the application they want to use, select the files on their local disk they'd like to get processed, and submit the job. Then they can monitor the job, and after it completes, they can easily download the results back to their desktop or archive the results to the BeSTGRID DataFabric.
